Memories of

Describe the way he looks
  • I thought he looked like the movie star Robert Mitchum. His voice was deep like Mitchum's too! He was about 6'2" tall, well built, muscular like. Hair was a sandy color with white starting, a bit wavy and combed straight back, no part. He had a dimple in his chin. I can't remember his eye color. He had high cheek bones. His head shape was one called, pear shape. -Joyce

Describe his personality
  • The personality I knew was a good one. He seemed very confident and in control of what he needed to do. He was a charming guy. He liked to tease a little. He had concern for his family. He would call weekly when Willard was in Vietnam - after I said "Hello" his deep voice would always say "Hello Noisy, how are you and my grand kids doing?" He would always ask if we needed money and how we were actually doing. About the noisy part, I think he called me that because when I met him I was a young new bride and believe it or not I used to be shy. I didn't say much, he told me. of course I've made up for those silent times. I'm sure he would have come up with a different nickname for me now, but we lost him to a heart attack in 1971 when we were in Germany living. -Joyce

What was something that you learned from him
  • That even thought he didn't raise Willard, because he and Bernice were divorced, when Willard was a baby, he always cared for all of us. I'm sure had I told him we needed something he would have got it for us. -Joyce

What comes to mind when you think of him
  • I feel sad I didn't have more time to get to know him and be around together more so our children could have had memories of him and things he said to them. Once at a Vegas hotel where he was staying - Willard and I and our children were there, Sheila Glen & John - went to see him. Sometime later he took us into the restaurant to eat then he whispered to the waitress, later, here come ice cream Sundays about a foot high. There were some big eyes on those there kids faces. Big smiles too! I often think of how our son Glen looks so much like him. High cheek bones and the dimple in his chin. Yes, looks and actions do get passed on to us from our ancestors. Glens always wondered who he looked like, hehe, well I know! It's Reese Taylor (Grandpa Taylor) -Joyce
