4th of July weekend

Our weekend fun was just that, fun!

Saturday
At the top of Big Cottonwood.
  • I got up and went to work and did the grocery shopping.
  • Nick wenk on a bike ride starting at the top of Immigration riding down and over to the top of Big Cottonwood and back up to Immigration, burned 2600 calories, ride time was around 4 hours. On his way home he introduced Alex and Susan to ice baths.
  • We both got home around the same time and had a late lunch. Nick said that his ride was amazing and that he felt amazing. He was able to break into the red zone with his heart rate and sustain his power and still feel in control and push though. He's never been able to do that before.
  • That evening we went to Bri's for a BBQ and lucky for us the France Tour was on! (Side note - I love this race. Nick introduced it to me right after we started dating in 2008 and I've been hooked ever since.) Funny story, we were all sitting there watching the race talking about all the teams the riders, countries and the course and a kid who plays baseball for a college says: So where does this race take place? We all kinda looked at each other with puzzled looks and said: France... the Tour de France. He had a DUH moment and we all had a good laugh.

Sunday
  • A few days before I asked Nick for a favor, he said: You want me to go to church with you. I asked how he knew I was going to ask and he said that he just knew, and that he would go. So we went to church Sunday morning. It was the first Sunday of the month, which is testimony meeting and the members of the congregation are welcome to go up to the pulpit to share what they believe, their testimony. I like this particular meeting as there is such personal growth, and inspiration that is provided to others. I was once told that in order to keep your testimony, you have to give it away. There was also two baby blessings and the confirmation of a 9 year old who is the only church member in his family so far. It was a good meeting.
  • Backing up to Saturday, Nick's good friend Tavita called to ask him if we wanted to go boating on Sunday. We decided that it would be a good idea and that is what we did Sunday after church. We made the drive to Huntsville and met up with Tavita and Robin at Robin's grandparent's cabin, we got the boat all ready and headed to the lake. That town is a pretty cool place. It sits way up on a mountain amoung taller mountains and it's so green and has a small town feel. I'd live there. During the winter you'd be stuck though.
  • So once out on the warm water, Nick was itching to water ski. He had been talking about how good he was and how excited he was for me to see what he could do. He was like a little kid at Christmas. He got up the first time and did his thing, about 5 times. He tried one ski, but couldn't ever get up, something with the power of the boat. He was able to provide a different kind of instruction to Tavita on how to get up on the skis. Tavita tried it and after a few fails, he was able to get up! Seeing a big brown guy get up on water skis for the first time is pretty awesome! We went tubing and we all had fun for about 7 hours out on the water. We went back to the cabin, had some burgers and headed home. It was funny cause once we weren't moving, it still felt like we were in a rocking boat - it's so weird.
  • The damage of the day's events were: a few sunburned spots - random shapes random places, a bug bite and super sore muscles.

Monday
  • Nick had training in the morning and I got to sleep in. We had a movie day! For lunch we watched Benny and June then got all ready to go and went to see Transformers in the theater. It was pretty good. In the first Transformers Sam gets introduced to his new life, in the second one he wants a more normal life and in this third one, he wants to be more involved with the autobots. The new blond girlfriend is so much better than Mikaela (Megan Fox). It's cool how Optimus Prime now has a trailer that is hooked to his semi that has a bunch of cool gear. And finally a character in the movie points out what I have always thought: Why do the decepticon always have the cool stuff... They have all the robots that do crazier things, like a snake one and a tornado mouth and the autobots are all just normal. We got back home and for dinner watched the first half of Eat Pray Love. We were both so sore from the day before.
  • We saw fireworks from our living room.
My camera broke, and I'm really not sad about it. It hasn't been performing the way it used to. We are looking at getting a new one... researching. It will be trough though cause a new camera and piano cost about the same amount. *sigh*
