The Quinlan Trunk
About 1902 the Mooney family which included my mother, the former Margaret Quinlin went to Niagara also and Uncle John lived with us. He lived with is from that time in while he was a bachelor. After the San Francisco earthquake in 1906, he went out there to work the the trunk went with him. He lived there for 13 years, so the trunk has been to the west coast. After he returned, he lived with us again until he married Emma Rohleder, he was 49 and she was 39. When he left our house to be marries, he left the trunk behind. It remained at our house until about 1932 when they gave up our family home and my father cane to live with us. The trunk came with him and we have had it ever since.
As near as I can figure out it is perhaps 100 year old and possibly more. From the appearance of the inside it has been used considerably. Our next door neighbor, Mr. Long, had old trunks too tho not a humpback and he knows a lot about them. He says from the way of the steel is put on top of it, he thinks it is a hand made trunk.
So far as I know it, that is the history of the trunk.
