Memories of
Describe the way she looks
- Thin in stature, but strong. - Mark
Describe her personality
- Very naive when it comes to most things she was very simple in her actions. - Mark
What was something that you learned from her
- Treasure what you got. Use it. Repair it. Wear it out. - Mark
What comes to mind when you think of her
- She came to live with us in 71 &72 when Dad was in Vietnam. She would do ironing for people via newspaper ads and from a sign that Joe had made for her. She would give him the money for her first job of each customer.
- In 72 or 73 she came up to Grand Forks , ND and we went fishing in Minn at Gull Lake. It rained but the grandkids didn't was to get out of the boat. She looked like a drowned rat.
- In 1970 when we came back from England we liven in Loring Maine. Grandma had never been out of the US, so we took her into Canada. It had been raining, Dad stopped the car and told Grandma to get out and stomp her feet so she could say she stepped in a foreign country. So, she stomped her feet, well she was in a puddle of water so she got her feet soaked.
- One thing was that she couldn't how fast I ate. By the time it took her to fill up her plate I would be done and up from the table. She could eat more fat that I have ever seen. -Mark
- When living in Louisiana Dad was at the war, so Grandma Schmiskie came to live with us. In our backyard we had a chain link fence and there was a black berry that we would always pick form. Well one morning we couldn't find Grandma and one of the dinning room charis was gone. We looked outside and saw the chair near the fence and all the black berries picked on our side. Grandma got the chair to get over to the other side of the fence to get the rest of the berries and she as stuck on the other side of the fence becasue she didn't have a way to get back over. Mind you she was about 73 or so. -Leigh
- When she would pick the berries there was a ditch and to keep from falling in she would grab on to the poison ivy vines. She was never affected and always said that it was an old wives tale. -Mark
- After Grandpa died she was courted by a man who had lots of money and was really good. They were going to get married, but she backed out right before. -Leigh
